Accompaniment

Accompaniment service

Our volunteer accompaniment service provides access to health and social services while ensuring safety and wellbeing throughout the entire process - from home pick-up, accompaniment throughout the appointment and drop off. Our accopaniment service is a service of last resort, when no other options are available.

COVID-19

Our organization remains open in order to provide essential services to the community. Extra precautions are taken by all of our staff members and volunteers in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the health and safety of our users and volunteers.

admissibility criteria
In order to be admissible for the accompaniment service, the person must :
​
  • Be 50 years of age or more (exceptions are made for the accompaniment service in oncology, which can be requested at any age, without restrictions);
AND
  • Be living in a residence or in their own home;
AND
  • Be residing on the territory served by the CABGC (Châteauguay, Léry, Mercier, Sainte-Martine, Saint-Isidore and Saint-Urbain-Premier)
AND
  • Make their accompaniment request at least 72 hours before the date of their appointment.
AND
  • Be in loss of autonomy, either temporary or permanent (wheelchairs are not accepted);
​OR
  • Be in cognitive loss of autonomy and be accompanied by a caregiver, in addition to the volunteer.


*Individuals living in public residences, hospital centres, rehabilitation centres or private CHSLDs are not admissible for this service, as they already receive services from these establishments.
types of accompaniment
There are 3 types of accompaniments:

1. For medical appointments
2. For help with essential errands (ex: groceries, pharmacy, bank, etc.)
3. Compassionate visits (ex: visiting a relative or spouse in the hospital)
